Meals on Wheels is dedicated to ensuring that no one is isolated, hungry or without human connection in our community.
Our mission is to supply nutritious meals to the sick, elderly or disabled in order to enable them to remain in their homes with some degree of independence.
Our service provides peace of mind to families and compassion and connection to recipients.
Meals on Wheels was originally started in England by the Women’s Royal Voluntary Service during the Second World War. By the 1960’s, Meals on Wheels programs were launched across North America and the organization is now recognized internationally.
In the fall of 1965 St. Christopher House initiated the first Meals on Wheels program in Toronto. Yorkminster Park Meals on Wheels was launched the following year, in 1966. We have been delivering healthy, delicious meals to the elderly, disabled and chronically ill residents of our North Toronto community for almost six decades.
Today there are 22 Meals on Wheels Agencies in the Greater Toronto Area, providing services to meet all types of dietary requirements.
We serve over 12,000 hot and over 20,000 frozen meals every year at low cost as needed to our community members. Our organization is committed to transparency and is run by a volunteer Board of Directors. We rely strongly on the generosity of donors both private and corporate to serve our community.
